Test & tag process
The test & tag process consists of 4 stages; visual inspections, electronic testing, tagging of items and recording the results of an inspection.
A visual inspection is conducted on the full length of cords, plugs, sockets to check for damage, signs of overheating, non-conforming changes to the cord or connections and to assess the general condition of the item.
Recording the results of the inspection:
To ensure the important information is recorded and there is a detailed log of what work has been completed, our Express Test & Tag technicians will keep a detailed record of all tested items. The results will show:
- Customer and operator details
- Test date
- Tag number
- Location of the item
- Description of the item
- Make and model of the item
- Frequency of retesting
- Retest date
- Visual and overall results – pass or fail
- Class of the item – this varies and determines the types of tests performed
- A table showing the parameters of each test
- Comments on the results to describe any repairs, recommendations or failures
You can also expect a notification of compliance form with the test that will provide an overview of the testing performed. These forms are often requested by insurance companies as proof that testing has been completed.
All items that pass the visual inspection test will then undergo an electronic test. Using a Portable Appliance Tester we will be able to inspect the items for dangers not visible to the human eye.
The tests conducted will include resistance, earth resistance, current leakage, polarity and timed trip tests and will provide a pass or fail result combined with test results for each item.
Tagging of items:
The item will be issued with a laminated tag that will be attached to the cord. The tag will include the technicians name and certification number, a specific identification number for each item, the test date, the retest date and the reference to the Australian Standard – AS/NZS 3760.
Fail-result- When an items fails the following precautions are taken to ensure safe electrical safety:
- The item is withdrawn from use
- The item is tagged with a danger tag and the details of the fault will be listed
- The fault will be logged
- The individual responsible for the electric safety of the business will be promptly notified
